Senior Backend Engineer
Plexis.ai, a Techstars '25 healthcare AI startup, is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join their remote-first team based in Hanoi, Vietnam. This is a full-time opportunity to contribute to building backend infrastructure for AI-driven clinical systems. You’ll be responsible for architecting scalable services using Python (FastAPI), integrating large language models (LLMs) like GPT and Claude, and ensuring system performance, security, and reliability. Core tasks include API development, backend orchestration, automating workflows, and managing databases like PostgreSQL. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of experience in backend development, proven expertise with Python and FastAPI, and hands-on experience deploying or integrating AI/ML models from platforms like OpenAI or Hugging Face. A strong understanding of microservices, RESTful APIs, and data storage systems such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB is essential. Bonus points for familiarity with orchestration tools like Celery or Prefect. Backend Engineer (Python/FastAPI/AI Integration)
You will be responsible for building the backend infrastructure, integrating AI models, and ensuring the backend can handle scalability and security.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement backend systems using Python (FastAPI) framework to build an orchestration engine.
- Integrate large language models (LLMs) such as GPT, LLaMA, or Claude through APIs.
- Build APIs to enable frontend interaction with backend systems (agent creation, workflow automation).
- Develop and manage data storage solutions (PostgreSQL).
- Manage fine-tuning workflows for LLMs to meet customer-specific requirements.
- Ensure data security and compliance with enterprise standards.
- Optimize system performance and scalability for high usage.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in backend development with Python (FastAPI preferred).
- Experience working with AI/ML models (preferably OpenAI API or Hugging Face).
- Proficiency in database design and management (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
- Familiarity with deploying machine learning models in production environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
