Our current focus is a modern .NET-based platform for gaming and club management, but as the team grows you’ll likely work across a range of projects and technologies over time.

The Role

We’re hiring a Senior PostgreSQL Architect to own the data layer for our gaming and club management platform. The product moves a lot of transactional data — member systems, gaming activity, real-time venue state — and the database is where it lives or dies. You’ll set the shape: schema design, indexing strategy, query performance, partitioning, replication, backup and recovery, and the migration path as the platform grows. You’ll work alongside .NET engineers using EF Core via the Npgsql provider, so part of the role is making sure what they ship plays well with what PostgreSQL can actually do at scale. Redis sits next to it for caching and hot-path data, and you’ll own that too. This is a senior, opinionated seat. We want someone who’s run PostgreSQL in production at a level where the answers aren’t on Stack Overflow — and who’s comfortable saying “no, do it this way” when it matters.

What You’ll Do

Own PostgreSQL schema, indexing, and query performance across the platform

Design for scale — partitioning, replication, connection pooling, backup and recovery

Work with .NET engineers on EF Core and Npgsql usage, and review the SQL the ORM generates

Set up and tune Redis for caching and hot-path data

Build observability into the data layer so problems show up before customers do

Define migration patterns and own them through CI/CD via GitHub Actions

Shape the data side of new features from the design stage, not after the fact

Must-haves

• Real PostgreSQL experience in production at scale — you’ve tuned, indexed, and rescued real systems
• Deep grasp of query plans, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and how to actually fix a slow query
• Schema design for transactional, write-heavy workloads
• Replication, backup, and recovery patterns you’ve actually used, not just read about
• Redis in production — caching patterns, eviction, TTLs, the gotchas
• Comfortable working with application engineers using an ORM (EF Core ideal, but any ORM background transfers)
• Working English for written collaboration with the Australian team

Nice-to-haves

• EF Core / Npgsql specifically
• C#/.NET reading-level fluency so you can review what application code is doing
• PostgreSQL extensions — TimescaleDB, PostGIS, pg_partman, pg_stat_statements
• GitHub Actions for migration and database CI
• Observability tooling — OpenTelemetry, Serilog, Seq
• Domain experience in gaming, hospitality, finance, or anywhere transactional integrity is non-negotiable
